Since you asked…

I went to my grade 12 prom with my husband.  Crazy right?  We have not been together since then however.  In fact, we broke up shortly after we graduated.  He was going back to upgrade and I was off to college and so we went our separate ways.  Here is the story of how we came to be engaged. ..

I had been living in BC for a few years and was home for Christmas vacation in 1999.  Before I came home my friend and I were chatting about who I would like to see while I was home.  I said I would like to say hello to Ian Curlett as I hadn’t heard anything from him in 7 years.  She had actually went on a date with him and knew where he was working.   After the New Year she called him and said she had someone with her who wanted to say hi.  He said that he was busy putting new floor down in the restaurant that he managed so he wasn’t sure he would be available.  That didn’t stop us.  We went and knocked on the door and when he came he was covered in dirt and grime and his physical appearance had changed quite a bit but he still had those damn blue eyes.  I was done for.  He saw me and said “I knew it was you.”

We spent a few days fawning over one another in the first few days of 2000. Just before I was set to come home I went and purchased a Claddagh for him as a way to say that I hoped that we would work on a long term relationship.  We both somehow knew that we were meant to be together.  We even jokingly told my parents that we would be getting married.  I reluctantly returned to my life in BC.  A short time later he set up an actual meeting with them to ask for my hand!

We planned for him to come to Vancouver for the Valentine’s Day weekend.  I expected that he would ask for me to marry him at dinner on Valentine’s day and was very excited.  I went to the airport to pick him up on February 11, 2000.  I was running late but thankfully so was his plane.  Many planes arrived and many people came and went and still I waited.   A man came towards me and said, “Are you Kim Woods?” and I thought, “Oh no!  He missed his plane!” but I hesitantly said “yes”.  The man proceeded to hand me one single red rose with a little note attached with my name on it.  Then, one by one, 10 more people came off the plane and handed me a rose with a little note.  In all they read, “Kim, I am in love with you.  Will you please marry….” And he came out with the last rose that said, “me”.  Well, before he could ask me I was hugging him and crying.  So, in true gentlemen’s fashion, he pulled me off of him and got down on one knee and gave me the most beautifully simple ring I had only seen in my dreams.  What a moment!

Not only did he recruit 11 strangers on a plane to hand out roses he bought in Halifax but he also had a lady take pictures and send them to us.  Pretty romantic, eh?  Well, needless to say we had a wonderful visit together.  He went back home and I worked to get home myself.  I did on April 28, 2000 and we were married on April 28, 2001.  So, here we are,  almost 11 years, 3 kids, 1 mortgage and a business later, still committed to one another.Without him there would be no ALL YOGA.  He is my partner in life and in business and supports me every step of the way.  Thanks for all you do to keep our house running while I am living my dream!

(Inspired by the article in yesterday’s Chronicle Herald about another very romantic proposal).  Tell your partner you love them by supporting them this New Year with the gift of good health and ultimate wellness.  Our new schedule and blow your mind membership pricing will be released on Christmas day!
